ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, economic collaboration, and regional developments. The leaders explored ways to further solidify connections between the UAE and Jordan, while also addressing regional security, stability, and peace initiatives. The meeting coincided with King Abdullah’s official visit to the UAE.

Economic cooperation was a key aspect of the dialogue. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah evaluated joint efforts in trade, investments, and development through the UAE-Jordan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. This agreement provides a broader framework for commercial and investment activities. Leaders also discussed other areas of collaboration aligned with their national development goals. The UAE and Jordan continue to maintain strong political relations, regularly consulting on economic and regional matters.

Jordan’s delegation included Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, with senior UAE officials also participating. Attendees from the UAE included Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Their presence underscored the importance of political, economic, and foreign policy coordination between the two nations.

    Trade pact signifies economic partnership

The UAE and Jordan formalized their Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on October 6, 2024, which came into effect on May 15, 2025. It marked the UAE’s first such deal with an Arab country, covering over 98% of tariff lines and establishing shared rules for goods and services. The agreement also promotes investment, customs cooperation, digital trade, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.

This framework offers preferential treatment to qualifying goods that meet designated rules of origin and technical standards. Over 99.5% of the value of UAE exports to Jordan are included within its liberalization scope. It also proposes mechanisms to enhance customs cooperation and facilitate investment activities, with committees and official contact points to oversee implementation. Both nations view the agreement as a vital tool to expand economic ties further.

    Regional issues highlighted during discussions

Regional concerns played a significant role in the Abu Dhabi talks. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah shared their perspectives on ongoing developments in the Middle East, emphasizing the need for continued UAE-Jordan coordination on security and stability matters. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting peace efforts across the region. The discussions reflected the ongoing political dialogue between Abu Dhabi and Amman on regional security and stability issues.

Following the talks, King Abdullah departed Abu Dhabi later on Sunday, after concluding his UAE visit. Sheikh Mohamed accompanied senior officials during his departure. The meeting combined bilateral economic initiatives with regional security discussions, highlighting the importance of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in fostering UAE-Jordan relations. Both parties used the occasion to review existing cooperation and strengthen direct communication between their leaderships and officials.
