BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – During a visit to Berlin, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The agenda focused on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic cooperation, and regional and global developments, emphasizing diplomacy, peace, and international security. This meeting coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

The officials explored strategies to deepen the UAE-Germany strategic alliance in various sectors. The conversations prioritized economic collaboration and development initiatives. They also exchanged perspectives on worldwide issues and the diplomatic efforts to resolve crises. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the strong ties and cooperative history shared by both nations across political and economic spheres.
This Berlin meeting occurred amidst the expansion of formal channels in their bilateral partnership. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, announcing a Strategic Dialogue that encompasses areas such as security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, and technology. The dialogue also aims to include digitalization, transportation, environmental collaboration, culture, and education, broadening the scope of governmental engagement.
Broader economic framework strengthens strategic partnership
Both governments supported the creation of a German-UAE Investment Council, designed to foster connections between public agencies and private sectors in both countries. They also welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. The overall visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda worth over 9.356 billion euros, as stated in the joint government declaration.
Economic talks also covered energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration included cooperation in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency, alongside plans for advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Both nations identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as key areas for bilateral cooperation, in addition to investment and industrial development.
Focus on diplomacy and regional stability persists
The two officials also addressed regional and international issues, emphasizing the importance of peace, stability, and security efforts. Diplomatic strategies and crisis management were central to their discussions. The German government had previously highlighted Middle East peace and stability among the topics during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the foreign ministers’ talks within the broader Berlin diplomatic agenda.
UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the foreign ministers’ meeting, linking foreign policy with the economic and development priorities discussed during the state visit. These talks built upon earlier UAE-Germany consultations held in Berlin in 2026. The recent meetings introduced new institutional mechanisms to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, maintaining economic cooperation, investment, and diplomacy as core pillars of their relationship.
