India issues nationwide alert over two Pakistan-origin skin creams due to heavy metal concerns

NEW DELHI / RankWire.AI / – India has issued a nationwide health warning regarding two Pakistan-produced skin whitening products following laboratory tests that revealed elevated heavy metal levels. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation issued the alert on September 8, identifying Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream. The authority stated that both items lacked necessary authorization for import and sale in India, warning that the detected heavy metals could lead to toxic health effects. Consumers are advised to cease purchasing or using these cosmetics immediately.

The regulator emphasized that the products did not possess valid registration certificates from Indian authorities. Importing cosmetics into India and their manufacturing facilities must undergo registration before they can be legally marketed, as per the Cosmetics Rules, 2020, under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The alert did not specify which heavy metals were found in each cream nor provide laboratory concentration levels, batch numbers, or importer details.

Authorities instructed sellers, distributors, and advertisers to refrain from marketing Goree Beauty Cream or Chandni Whitening Cream within India. Enforcement agencies are directed to act against unauthorized sales in their jurisdictions. Consumers are encouraged to verify labeling and registration data before purchasing imported cosmetics, ensuring labels include essential manufacturing and product information as mandated by Indian regulations. Officials also urged the public to report any suspected violations involving these products to relevant authorities.

Focus on import and labeling adherence

India’s cosmetics regulations require importers to obtain approval from the Central Licensing Authority prior to marketing foreign cosmetics domestically. Applicants must submit Form COS-1 under the Cosmetics Rules, 2020, to secure an import registration certificate. Approved certificates are issued via Form COS-2. The rules also mandate detailed traceability information covering manufacturing locations and the supply chain, applying to both imported cosmetics and the overseas factories where they are produced. The warning positions the two creams within this broader regulatory framework.

In Maharashtra, official records show that samples of Goree Beauty Cream tested by state authorities failed quality standards, with issues related to mercury content and misbranding. These findings pertain only to the specific samples examined and do not confirm that all Goree products contain mercury at similar levels. The national alert uses more general language, citing excessive heavy metals in the two creams without specifying each metal involved.

Consumers advised to avoid the two products

The Indian health notice does not report any confirmed health issues linked to Goree Beauty Cream or Chandni Whitening Cream, nor does it specify distributors, retailers, or sales points involved in their circulation. The focus remains on regulatory compliance, laboratory test results, and consumer safety. Authorities have ordered the public to refrain from purchasing or using these products, while businesses are instructed not to sell, distribute, or promote them. These directives are enforced nationwide through various state, union territory, and central agencies.

This warning renews scrutiny on imported skin whitening products sold without Indian approval. Consumers are advised to carefully check labels and registration details before buying. They should avoid the two creams named in the September 8 notice, which are linked to high heavy metal levels and lack proper import authorization. The regulatory body continues to regard Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream as unauthorized cosmetics in India’s domestic market.
