Global Markets Focus on US Inflation as Gold Stays Near $4,400 Level

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – Gold prices hovered above $4,400 an ounce on Thursday, reversing an earlier dip from the prior session. Spot gold increased by 0.3% to $4,414.28 at 0419 GMT, while U.S. gold futures for December delivery declined slightly by 0.1% to $4,457.20. The US dollar stayed subdued during Asian trading, bolstering bullion valued in the currency. Gold ended Wednesday near the higher levels seen late in the previous day after bouncing back from earlier losses.

Gold steadies near $4,400 with US inflation in focus
Precious metals markets track U.S. inflation readings as gold trades near $4,400 an ounce.

The US 10-year Treasury yield stayed elevated close to 4.84%, keeping attention on interest rates across financial markets. Since gold does not pay interest, shifts in bond yields can impact its demand. Brent crude also remained above $100 a barrel after crossing that threshold during Wednesday’s trading session. Rising oil prices kept inflation metrics in focus as traders prepared for upcoming US economic data. Movements in currency, bond yields, and inflation figures continued to drive gold trading dynamics.

The US will publish producer price index data at 1230 GMT on Thursday, with consumer inflation figures coming on Friday. These reports will update the market on inflation pressures ahead of the Federal Reserve’s meeting scheduled for September 15 and 16. The Fed’s current federal funds target rate remains between 3.50% and 3.75%. According to CME Group’s FedWatch Tool, markets ascribe about a 60% chance of a rate hike this month. These upcoming economic releases remain key events shaping precious metals markets.

Gold Experiences Significant Recovery After Wednesday’s Early Drop

Thursday’s gold levels followed a broad trading range seen on Wednesday. Spot gold dipped 0.1% to $4,349.44 at 0040 GMT. By 1744 GMT, it had rebounded 1.4% to $4,414.30. December U.S. gold futures also recovered, ending 0.5% higher at $4,458.80. The rally marked the end of a three-day decline for bullion and pushed spot prices back above $4,400 ahead of Thursday’s Asian trading session.

This price action highlighted a clear distinction between the early and later readings on Wednesday. Thursday’s spot price was roughly 1.5% above the early session’s $4,349.44. December futures remained well above the previous Wednesday’s $4,393.30. With the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy meeting, interest rate expectations and inflation data continue to influence gold’s movements. The metal’s sensitivity to the dollar and Treasury yields persisted as investors digested economic signals without significant market shifts.

Mixed Movements Among Silver, Platinum, and Palladium

On Thursday, other precious metals showed varied trading patterns after recent gains. Spot silver rose 0.3% to $67.50 an ounce, while platinum declined 0.4% to $1,888.05. Palladium increased 0.2% to $1,356.20. Wednesday had seen silver jump 3.3% to $67.91, platinum advance 5.1% to $1,906.20, and palladium gain 1.2% to $1,365.50, reflecting a broader recovery across the metals complex.

Early Thursday, gold maintained levels above $4,400, with silver staying above $67 an ounce. Key market influences like the dollar, Treasury yields, and US inflation data continued to steer trading. Producer inflation figures are expected Thursday, followed by consumer inflation data on Friday. These releases precede the Federal Reserve’s September 15 and 16 policy meetings. For gold, recent trading levels kept most of Wednesday’s rebound intact, maintaining prices close to the previous session’s late gains.
