CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s international reserves reached an unprecedented $57.2145 billion at the close of August 2026, according to the Central Bank of Egypt. The provisional figure was announced on September 7, after reserves stood at $56.2939 billion at the end of July. The month-over-month growth amounted to approximately $920.6 million, or 1.6%, marking Egypt’s first reserve level surpassing $57 billion.

Egypt foreign reserves rise to record $57.2 billion
Egypt’s foreign reserve stock rose for an eighth straight month in August 2026.

This increase extends a consistent upward trend seen throughout 2026. Beginning the year with $52.5938 billion in reserves, Egypt’s holdings grew to $52.7455 billion in February, $52.8306 billion in March, $53.0092 billion in April, and $53.1342 billion in May. By August, reserves had expanded by about $4.62 billion since January and roughly $5.76 billion from the end of December 2025.

Reserves accelerated growth mid-year, rising from $53.1342 billion in May to $55.0723 billion in June, then to $56.2939 billion in July before reaching the new August peak. The three consecutive monthly increases added over $4 billion. Compared to August 2025, the latest figure shows an approximate increase of $7.96 billion, representing a yearly growth rate of roughly 16.2%.

Remittances Drive Up Foreign Currency Inflows

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad hit a record during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, totaling about $47.3 billion, according to the Central Bank of Egypt. This was a 29.6% rise from roughly $36.5 billion during the previous fiscal year. In June alone, remittances reached around $4.2 billion, a 15.6% increase over the approximately $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025.

Egypt’s latest balance of payments figures cover the first nine months of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. A deficit of $1.8 billion was registered from July to March, with net inflows of $9.9 billion in capital and financial accounts. Meanwhile, the current account showed a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official snapshot of Egypt’s external financial position before the August reserve update.

Continued Monthly Reserve Records in 2026

Throughout 2026, the reserve figures have consistently reached new nominal heights, crossing $55 billion in June, then surpassing $56 billion in July, and finally exceeding $57 billion in August. Egypt has now reported reserve totals above $55 billion for three consecutive months. The August figure also stands more than 10% higher than the $51.4516 billion recorded at the end of December 2025.

These latest data position Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest ever recorded level and continue an unbroken upward trend since the beginning of 2026. From January to August, each month’s reserve total has been higher than the previous one. Although the August figure remains provisional according to the central bank’s reporting standards, the published data clearly indicate a rising trajectory of Egypt’s reserve holdings over the first eight months of the year.
