FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group intends to channel over €10 billion into France within the next five years. Chief Executive François Provost confirmed this commitment on October 3. The capital will bolster electric vehicle manufacturing and lower-cost models. In 2025, Renault produced approximately 500,000 vehicles in France, with expectations to boost French output by at least 25% in 2026. Provost noted that this investment hinges on stable social and political conditions in the country.

Since 2021, Renault Group has already invested €13 billion in France, supporting factories, EV production, and related industrial activities. By July 2026, Renault announced it had built one million electric vehicles in France since 2010, with around 600,000 produced at its ElectriCity hub in northern France. Renault employs nearly 39,000 in France, and its domestic operations are said to support roughly 35,000 jobs within its supplier network.

The automaker maintains a wide manufacturing presence across France, including assembly plants in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. Additional sites in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins provide mechanical and industrial support. Douai produces the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge assembles the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault also manufactures electric commercial vehicles at several French facilities, making this network a core element of its EV production in its home market.

French Electric Car Registrations Reach New Highs

Battery electric vehicles accounted for 42% of new passenger car registrations in France during September, marking a record monthly share for fully electric cars. A total of 156,629 new passenger cars were registered in the country during that month, a roughly 12% increase from the previous year. For the first nine months of 2026, battery electric models made up about 31% of registrations, up from nearly 18% during the same period in 2025.

This production outlook aligns with the growing market share of electric vehicles in France. Renault anticipates at least a 25% increase in output from its French plants this year. Additionally, in July, Renault announced €13 billion in further investment in France under its futuREady plan, contingent on suitable conditions. Provost’s October remarks place the current five-year investment at more than €10 billion. These statements follow Renault’s €13 billion domestic investment since 2021.

French Facilities Central to Renault’s EV Production Strategy

By July 2026, Renault’s ElectriCity sites at Douai and Maubeuge had produced around 600,000 electric vehicles. Production of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric surpassed 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric and electric commercial models. Between 2022 and 2025, ElectriCity created 700 permanent jobs, with an additional 550 temporary workers added at Douai by July as production ramped up.

This new investment builds on Renault Group’s existing €13 billion expenditure on operations linked to EV manufacturing and related activities since 2021. Renault expects significantly higher domestic vehicle output in 2026 compared to 2025. Provost emphasized that the next five years will focus on electric vehicles and more affordable options. This announcement coincides with a record market share for electric vehicles in France this year.
